Richard Lee ''Red'' Baugham
Richard Lee ''Red'' Baugham, 87, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
Red was a native of Halifax County, the son of the late Walter Filmore Baugham and Ruby Lee Hicks Baugham. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Red was retired as a Lieutenant in the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department, after 42 years of service. Red gave of himself by giving blood to others as a blood donor. He was a member of the 26 Gallon Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Powell Baugham; his sister, Evelyn B. Jenkins; and his brother, Charles Henry Baugham.
Red is survived by his daughter, Brenda B. Bowen of Roanoke Rapids; his son, Arnold Dail and his wife, Sheila, of Escalon, CA; four grandchildren, Delores Dail, Rosemary Dail, Arnold Dail, Jr., and Gary Hobbs; his companion of 12 years, Dot Shell, of White Plains, VA; and his sister, Hazel B. Cannon, of Kenansville, NC.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 23, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, at the Gaston Church of Christ in Gaston with Rev. David Martin and Rev. William Moody officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Baugham’s service to his country.
